The assessment phase of Stepping Forward is very thorough, encompassing all aspects of the young person’s history together with their current life, relationships and behaviours.
An important premise of the Stepping Forward Assessment Programme is that it is also an opportunity to begin the change process: while it focuses on gathering information about the young person, it also works with them in instilling a sense of hope, building rapport for future work and reducing shame.
Assessments give us a clearer picture of the issues and informs what, if any, intervention is needed. This is contained in a comprehensive report which sets out a proactive plan for intervention, together with effective strategies.
